Due to the current situation with many offices sending employees home to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19, networks are under pressure to keep internet speeds high and phone lines open. With an overload of customers working from home and many holidays/events being canceled they are focusing on creating stable connections to cope with the influx of activity:
Vodafone increasing capacity to deal with a new spike in internet traffic which has already increased by 50% for them. As well as allowing Government departments to deliver targeted text messages where technically possible.
Virgin has lifted some of the charges on their Phone plans for existing customers to give some relief on price as well as cheaper communication to friends and family e.g. unlimited minutes, free 10GB data boost, no data caps on broadband.
O2 has removed all data charges on national health sites like NHS UK as well as a specific helpline for customers worried about their monthly charges. £2 million has also supposedly been invested in upkeeping the network with the increasing pressure.
BT/EE hasn't put into place any major changes but has said that if intolerable pressure is put on the network then NHS and emergency calls will take priority.
Sky, due to most major sports events being canceled, it is offering a 'pause' option to customers. A good way to avoid losing customers permanently but no doubt they will lose a lot of money from this.
It will be interesting to see how these plans get implemented and their success through the coming (no doubt stressful) weeks.

Great to speak to a UK based call centre on the phone, Dan couldn't have been more helpful and friendly! Everything was explained clearly, and the switch over to Virtual Landline from my old copper landline went really smoothly. It did exactly what it promised. Really happy with how easy it all was.
